Mission Statement


Soup Kitchen


Mission Statement
To imitate Christ by providing service and joy to the needy, the helpless and the elderly.
How It Works: Teens are empowered to design and implement projects with the help of adult advisors.
Who Can Get Involved: Any teen involved in Youth Ministry can volunteer to coordinate a project. Participation is open to ALL teens.

Americares
Repair, paint and refurbish a home in one full day for those who are not able to themselves. Nation-wide project that recruits skilled laborers as well as volunteer teens and adults. Over 80 volunteers from SFA typically participate.

Bingo at Mediplex
Teens run and help the residents play Bingo at Mediplex, a Rehabilitation Center in Westport. Timing is after school, evening or weekends.

Bridgeport Run
Distribute clothes and necessities to homeless shelters in Bridgeport. Volunteers meet at a central point and travel in a group by van to 2-3 locations. (Also called Midnight Run)

Christmas Caroling
Teens carol to medical centers, senior housing and/or door to door to the homebound.

Free the Children
Free the Children is an international network of children helping children. Its mission is to free children from poverty and exploitation and to empower young people to become leaders. Activities include fundraising and advocacy projects.

Life Teen Mass
Teens serve as Lectors, Altar Servers, Musicians and gift bearers.

Lock in/Fast for the Children
Teens, sponsored by adults, commit to a 12 hour lock in/fast at SFA to raise money for S. Terese's Day Care Center in Bridgeport. Groceries are bought and delivered with the funds raised.

Manicures for the Elderly
Teens, trained by a licensed cosmetologist, sponsor a day of manicures for the elderly.

Religious Education
Teens (usually in teams of 2) teach in the Religious Ed program, including Sunday preschool, Atrium program and elementary school classes.

Seniors Senior Prom
Teens work with the Weston Senior Center to implement a semi-formal Senior Prom during their luncheon

Soup Kitchen
Families work in teams at the Good Shepard Soup kitchen in Norwalk. Teens assist in kitchen help, lunch preparation and setup.

Summer Service Project
Rebuild homes and communities in an out of state impoverished area while living there for one week. Similar to Americares, skilled laborers are recruited as well as volunteer teens and adults.

Website for SFA Youth Ministry
Teens maintain a website serving the various youth ministries of SFA.
