Dear Confirmation Candidate,
Welcome! I am so excited to be sharing this spiritual journey with you. This is a very special time in your life. You are beginning to prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. The sacrament of confirmation celebrates the presence of God’s special strength, and gifts in a baptized person. Being confirmed in our faith will help you become a better Christian.
Each of you is a unique individual, with special gifts and talents. Our job is to help you explore your faith, learn more about the church, and the history of salvation. Over the years, you have been provided with many pieces of the puzzle, together we will take these pieces and help you make a clear picture of what it means to be catholic. You are being invited by Jesus to be apart of His plan of salvation!
Each of us has roles and responsibilities in this program yours are the following.
v To attend weekly mass, although any of our mass times are acceptable we strongly encourage you to participate in our Sunday 5:00 Teen Mass. This mass has been designated for the youth of our parish. After mass you are invited to eat dinner in the Parish Hall with your peers.
v You will need to complete six hours of community service. These community service hours are an opportunity for you to examine what your unique spiritual gifts are from God and how you can share them with others. Ask yourself, what am I passionate about? What talents have I been born with? How can my unique personality impact my own personal ministry? After you have answered these questions, decide on where to volunteer your time. All service projects must have prior approval from me.
v Attend Confirmation Class. It is very important that you make a commitment to yourself and to the program. You are allowed up to three-excused absence, if you are going to miss class you need to be responsible to inform your teacher or myself.
v Completed end of the year interview with Monsignor.
v Attend the Teen/Parent retreat in the fall.
Come with an open mind and heart. This openness will allow you to experience the true meaning of confirmation. Your confirmation program will be divided into three phases: Period of Invitation, Period of Formation and Period of Reflection. In addition you will also have a three week course on Salvation History. Once you have completed this program you will have a deeper bond with Jesus, and will have received the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
